March is Brain Awareness Month
150 brain injury survivors from across Canada will lend their faces to The Hope Generator project that launches on March 1, 2017 to draw attention to the importance of brain awareness as well as to encourage the more than 1 million Canadians who live with the effects of brain injury.

This is a Canada 150 project by Janelle Breese Biagioni, also known as the The Hope Generator, following the deaths of her husband and brother from brain injuries and her two decades of counselling brain injury survivors and their families as they work through the trauma, grief and loss that accompany the injury.

The first face to be posted for the project is Barb Butler, Co-president of Brain Injury Canada who for more than 20 years has defied those who said she couldn’t …. after her brain injury. She serves as newsletter editor and Conference Chair in addition to her responsibilities as co-president.

Brain Injury Canada has declared the month of March as Brain Awareness Month for the first time in 2017. Partnering with the The Hope Generator on this Canada 150 project as it is the people with the lived experience of brain injury that are the reason for its existence. During Brain Awareness Month in March, Brain Injury Canada encourages the public to learn about the brain and to make the health and safety of their brains a priority.

Internationally, March 13-19 is celebrated as Brain Awareness Week. The importance of this initiative is to combine the efforts of universities, hospitals, patient advocacy groups, professional associations, government agencies, service organizations, and schools around the world in a global celebration of the brain.

Brain Injury Canada is a national organization that partners with groups concerned about brain injury and with researchers to inform the best practises it advocates for brain injury survivors and families.
